Heeeeeeeey! Sorry I’ve been away for so long. You can catch me more frequently at OCA’s blog right now and even then I’m slacking with the immigration craziness that is going on.
Here are a few articles that I ran across that were interesting. A listing of top AAPI queer women. It’s a great list. There was also a great list of AAPI women in TV shows this coming season. I’ll have to admit here that I’m not a big TV watcher. What can I say? working at a nonprofit means I cut out all the necessaries in my life. But it does make it interesting when I do watch TV, I’m like a little kid, “ohmigod I want that? what what is this commercial? I want that too!” Anyways, back to the topic. It’s cool to see more aapi women on the screen, hopefully one day we can have a show just centered around one aapi women. The only concerning thing I have about the 2nd list of aapi women is the comments that people posted about Lucy Lui, like:
I love Lucy Lui. I watch her in almost anything cause I like that she’s classic beautiful and smart woman.
I read something like this and I’m like obviously you aren’t an AAPI woman because if you were, you would be disgusted by every stereotypical woman that Lucy Lui plays. Ok maybe she is an AAPI woman and isn’t disgusted, but man I am.
edit: The next day came out with a list of great AAPI lesbian films. Check it out. I’ve only watched a few so now I’m glad I have a nice listing
Continuing the trend of this post to talk about showbiz and our brothers and sisters who work in it. I found this interesting article at the Washington Post about Chow Yun-Fat and how he wants to be a lead in a drama in america but he keeps running into that glass ceiling. It piggy backs on the doc “The Slanted Screen”. I haven’t seen it yet but I’m kind of thrilled to be watching it at convention in sacramento….if I have time ;p
An article from NY Post about the recent decision in the hate crime case where two men ramed their car into another care full of Asian men and then when they walked out to look at the scene beat them up. I don’t know how I feel about the sentence and getting no jail time. The whole incident was uncalled for and unprompted. Well the survivors are ok with the sentence…I guess we will leave them be.
Finally, check out OCA’s Action Center. I try to update it every day and I really recommend that you call your sentators about immigration, because it changes your life and those that you love.
Alright, I’ll try to be more consistent and shorter in myposts! Be on the look out!
